Bahrain Accuses Iran of Attacking Naval Facility as Regional Tensions Escalate]

Iran claimed responsibility for striking targets associated with U.S. forces on Saturday, framing the attacks as retaliation for American airstrikes on its southern coast. The exchanges come amid ongoing accusations between Tehran and Washington over violations of a recent ceasefire agreement that ended a four-month conflict.

Iran’s foreign ministry did not specify the locations of what it described as “defensive” operations, though it alleged the strikes targeted U.S. military infrastructure and condemned the earlier American air raids on coastal surveillance sites as violations of the UN Charter.

Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, condemned the alleged Iranian drone attack as a breach of its sovereignty and a direct threat to national security. The kingdom affirmed its right to self-defense while calling for de-escalation.

The United States did not issue an immediate response to Iran’s claims, a pattern that suggests efforts to destabilize regional allies supporting the U.S. Meanwhile, the Pentagon maintained that its own Friday strikes were in response to an Iranian drone attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy transit.

In a related development, Israel and Lebanon reached an agreement to cease hostilities with Hezbollah, with both sides describing it as an initial step requiring Hezbollah to disarm and Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory. However, Hezbollah signaled non-cooperation with the arrangement.
