Do you incorporate exercise into your mid‑day schedule? How do you communicate your unavailability to coworkers, if at all? Do you typically work out around lunchtime? Do you block time on your calendar, check email during a workout, or take short walks? On average, how long are you away from your desk? Are there differences in how you manage mid‑day workouts when working from home versus in the office—even a brief 10‑ or 15‑minute walk?

I have consulted numerous professionals who fit exercise into their workday. I recall a colleague who was steadfast about attending his spinning class and openly informed others that he would be unavailable for that hour.

It’s been some time since we last discussed this topic. Earlier conversations covered the etiquette of using a nearby gym, appropriate attire for exercising in front of coworkers, packing a gym bag for the office, strategies for fitting a mid‑day workout into a packed schedule, hiring a personal trainer, and integrating exercise into a demanding day.
