QUETTA: Members and supporters of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) held a demonstration Monday on Sariab Road to protest the sentencing of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and another BYC leader to life imprisonment by a court.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch, BYC’s chief organizer, was detained last March along with other members of the organization.
She faced trial in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) over the fatal shooting of a Frontier Corps personnel during a Raji Muchi (Baloch assembly) in July 2024 in Gwadar.
The ATC judge also imposed life sentences on BYC leader Sibghatullah Shahjee for involvement in the same incident.
Protesters assembled at Bashir Chowk, blocking roads with barricades and burning tires while chanting slogans condemning the government.
Initially planned for the Burma Hotel area, the protest was prevented by authorities, who deployed a significant police presence to barricade the location.
