Balochistan’s Top Officials Hold Security Summit, Pledge Tougher Counter‑Terror Measures

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Quetta on Saturday and chaired a high‑level meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti to assess the province’s law‑and‑order situation.

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior said the chief minister briefed the gathering on the overall security scenario, current operations and the provincial government’s future strategy.

The meeting concluded that the professional capabilities of the Counter‑Terrorism Force and the Balochistan Police should be further strengthened, with urgent implementation of measures to enhance provincial policing.

The interior ministry pledged full cooperation and resource support to the provincial government for this purpose.

“The federal government will continue to provide all possible support for sustainable peace in Balochistan,” Naqvi was quoted as saying.

He emphasized the need for immediate and effective execution of the province’s peace‑restoration plan and urged making “full use” of former police chiefs’ expertise when shaping law‑and‑order policy.

The minister highlighted that modern technology, better intelligence and coordinated action are vital in the fight against terrorism, noting that “the federation and the Balochistan government are moving forward in complete unity and coordination to establish peace”.

Bugti asserted that the government will stay “one step ahead” in confronting terrorism and will not yield to external pressure. He reconfirmed that the state’s writ would be enforced “at all costs” and that no safe haven would be left for terrorists, the statement added.

The chief minister stated that providing youth with education, skills, employment and positive outlets remains the government’s top priority, and that promoting merit will help rebuild young people’s confidence.

Bugti linked peace, development and prosperity, vowing to advance both fronts simultaneously. He added that law‑and‑order initiatives and development projects would be accelerated with federal backing.

Naqvi’s visit took place amid heightened security concerns in Balochistan after a wave of major terrorist attacks earlier this month, prompting a series of counter‑terrorism operations across the province.

One of these operations, Code‑named Shaban, resulted in the elimination of 91 terrorists between July 5 and July 16, according to security sources cited by state media, raising the total kill count in province‑wide operations during the period to 129.
