Bangladesh made an imposing start in the second Test against West Indies at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on the opening day. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts applied intense pressure, taking three early wickets within the first nine overs. Among the breakthroughs, Hasan Mahmud delivered a match‑winning ball to remove Kavem Hodge, leaving the visitor with little chance to settle.
Hasan Mahmud produces a ripper to dismiss Kavem Hodge
The pivotal moment arrived on the fifth ball of the sixth over when Mahmud bowled a flawless delivery that deceived Hodge completely. The Bangladesh pacer bowled a back‑of‑a‑length ball outside off‑stalk, compelling the West Indies batsman to decide quickly.
Earlier in the over, Hodge had managed to leave a similar ball, but this delivery surged back sharply after pitching, skidding onto the surface. Expecting the ball to move away, Hodge swung but was caught in the defence; the ball brushed the edge of his bat and struck the top of middle stump, sending the bails flying.
The dismissal ended Hodge’s brief stay at the crease. Bangladesh’s fielders erupted in celebration, and Mahmud was visibly delighted with the execution.

Mahmud was not alone in the onslaught. Fellow fast bowler Taskin Ahmed also made an immediate impact, claiming two crucial wickets to further tighten the visitors’ innings and increase the pressure on West Indies.
West Indies make forced changes as Bangladesh welcome back Mushfiqur Rahim
West Indies were forced into two personnel changes for the match after opening batters John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul withdrew due to viral fever. Kevin Wickham earned his maiden Test cap, while Joshua Da Silva returned to the XI.
Da Silva, however, could not convert his opportunity, being dismissed for 12 runs off Taskin’s bowling. Wickham then joined Amir Jangoo at the crease, and the duo assembled a vital partnership that steadied the innings. Both batters crossed fifty, guiding West Indies out of early trouble and into a more competitive position by the close of the second session.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, welcomed back veteran opener Mushfiqur Rahim, who returned after recovering from a finger injury. Taskin retained his place in the bowling unit, with Shoriful Islam and the injured Mominul Haque making way for the reshuffled lineup.
