FC Barcelona has announced a new first team transfer via a statement sent to members of the press and another published on its official website.

FC Barcelona has officially confirmed a new first-team signing, releasing statements to the press and publishing an announcement on the club’s official website.
“FC Barcelona and Fenerbahce SK have reached an agreement for the transfer of Dominik Livakovic. The Croatian goalkeeper has signed a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030,” the statement read.
Barcelona’s announcement detailed Livakovic’s progression through the professional ranks in his native Croatia.
Following a four-year stint at NK Zagreb, he joined Dinamo Zagreb ahead of the 2016/2017 season—the same club where Dani Olmo developed his skills after departing La Masia.
Livakovic spent seven seasons at Dinamo Zagreb before transferring to Fenerbahce. He later had a loan spell at Girona, where he did not make a single appearance.
The goalkeeper has been a standout performer for Croatia, earning 87 caps since his international debut in 2017. He has represented his country at two European Championships and three World Cups.
His international pedigree includes a silver medal and a bronze medal at the FIFA World Cup, earned during Croatia’s runs to the final in 2018 and the semifinals in 2022.
Livakovic Arrives to Challenge Joan Garcia for the Starting Role
With Wojciech Szczesny still under contract until June 30, 2027, it remains uncertain whether Livakovic will immediately integrate into Hansi Flick’s first-team plans.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has already been sidelined from the picture after joining Ajax on loan, and is not expected to represent Barcelona again.
Szczesny could continue serving as backup to first-choice keeper Joan Garcia, making it unlikely that a goalkeeper of Livakovic’s international caliber would accept a third-choice role, particularly after not featuring during Girona’s relegation campaign last season.
A more plausible scenario would see Livakovic sent out on loan to maintain match fitness, before returning to his parent club ahead of the 2027/2028 preseason, which may include an overseas tour.
On Thursday evening, Joan Garcia is set to start in goal for FC Barcelona in their La Liga home opener against Athletic Club, with Szczesny named on the bench.
