BBC Journalists Embark on Rare Frontline Journey Amid Yemen’s Escalating Conflict

The BBC has gained rare access to Yemen’s conflict zone, traveling alongside government forces from Taiz through checkpoints to the boundary where Houthi control gives way to contested no-man’s-land.

Saudi-backed pro-government forces are fighting to repel Houthi militants, who advanced along the Red Sea coast earlier this month, seizing a crucial shipping chokepoint and intensifying Yemen’s civil war.

A drone is audible overhead from the front line, and a soldier accompanying the crew in southwestern Yemen noted that it is typically followed by an airstrike.

Senior international investigations correspondent Nawal Al-Maghafi reports that approximately ten minutes after the crew departed, the resonant thuds of strikes echoed through the area.
