A beloved community tea room featured in the BBC comedy drama Ludwig faces permanent closure unless it can raise £25,000 in emergency funding.
The Liberty Tea Rooms and Community Hub in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, run entirely by volunteers, has disclosed that it is currently in an extremely precarious financial position.
Mark Kitson, chair of the trustees, expressed gratitude for the unexpected boost brought by the filming of the show’s third series, which has generated significant local interest. He noted that renting the space during this critical period provided a timely financial reprieve.
The venue has been temporarily closed since filming began and will remain so until 7 October. As part of the production, the tea room’s exterior has been transformed to depict a bank, echoing its historical use prior to becoming a cherished community gathering place.
