Bill Belichick’s second season at North Carolina opened with a 2-0 record, but consecutive defeats to Clemson and Notre Dame have now brought the Tar Heels to a .500 record.
Notre Dame defeated the Tar Heels on Saturday by a final score of 37-26.
North Carolina briefly narrowed the gap to 21-20 with a touchdown on the opening kickoff of the second half, but the Irish pulled away shortly thereafter.
With seven minutes remaining, Notre Dame had extended its lead to 37-20.
North Carolina will next face 5-0 Pitt next Saturday at Acrisure Stadium, a venue where Belichick claimed two AFC Championship victories with the Patriots in 2001 and 2004.
Following that matchup, the Tar Heels are scheduled to play Duke, Syracuse, Miami, Connecticut, Louisville, Virginia, and NC State.
