A cricketer playing for Bengal has been booked by Lucknow Police after a woman filed a complaint alleging sexual exploitation in exchange for a marriage promise.
The case was registered at Ashiana police station, and authorities are currently investigating the allegations.
The cricketer, whose identity has been withheld for legal reasons, is a bowler who has represented Bengal in all three formats of domestic cricket. He is set to turn 30 this year and has become a regular fixture in Bengal’s domestic squad.
The complainant stated that she first connected with the cricketer on Instagram in 2020, and their relationship allegedly evolved into a romance where he promised to marry her.
Relationship Allegations and Marriage Promises
The woman alleged that the cricketer engaged in sexual relations with her on multiple occasions while continually promising marriage.
The alleged incidents reportedly occurred across multiple cities, including Lucknow, Delhi, and Kolkata. One specific claim involves a trip to Kolkata in September 2023, when the woman traveled there after being asked to meet the cricketer.
The allegations remain unproven in court and are currently under police investigation.
The woman also claimed she worked as a cabin crew member in Delhi but left her position after the cricketer allegedly requested it, assuring her of their impending marriage.
She further alleged that the cricketer promised to marry her after the December 2025 IPL auction, but the commitment was never honored.
Family Members Named in Complaint
The complaint also names members of the cricketer’s family. The woman claimed that when she pressed for marriage, she was summoned for a discussion with the cricketer and his family, during which she was allegedly told the family would not accept the relationship.
She further alleged that she was threatened during the dispute and named another family member in her complaint. Following the confrontation, she approached the police to seek action.
The report states that the woman initially approached the Ashiana police station and later contacted the Vibhuti Khand police station, citing jurisdiction over the alleged incidents.
She later approached the DCP East’s office in Lucknow, claiming she had not received a satisfactory response from the initial inquiries.
Police have since taken up the matter, with the investigation being handled by ACP Vibhuti Khand. The complainant’s statement has been recorded, according to the report. MyKhel has reached out to the police station for comment.
