Bengal T20 League: Ex-RCB Pacer Prayas Ray Barman Dominates with Five-Wicket Haul as Malda Crush Kolkata

A commanding bowling display led by former Royal Challengers Bengaluru spinner Prayas Ray Barman anchored Sobisco Smashers Malda’s 10-wicket demolition of Kolkata Royal Tigers in the Bengal T20 League Season 3 clash at Eden Gardens on Friday.

Kolkata Royal Tigers, batting first, collapsed under consistent pressure, crumbling to 92/7 in 14.3 overs. In a match-winning performance, Prayas Ray Barman claimed 5/16, while Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal supplemented the effort with 2 wickets.

Malda’s chase required just seven overs to complete, with Akhil anchoring the innings with 69* (24b) while Abhimanyu Easwaran contributed 23* (18b). The pair guided their team to 93/0—no runs required.

Earlier that day, Murshidabad Kings secured their opening season win, defeating Rashmi Ness Mehendipur Wizards by 28 runs via the DLS Method. Rishabh Chaudhary scored 71* (49b), Saksham Chaudhary struck 50* (37b), and Toufik Uddin Mondal contributed 37 (17b). Debopratim Halder took 2 wickets for the losing side.

The Mehendipur Wizards, chasing 202, were 95/5 in 11.5 overs when rain halted play. Persistent downpours throughout the evening ended the contest, with Murshidabad collectively declared winners.

Prayas Ray Barman, speaking post-match, attributed his breakthrough performance to relentless preparation. Holding the Purple Cap with 9 wickets, he credited his recent form to focused practice sessions and strategic guidance from his captain. “We had detailed discussions under the bat. He trusted me completely. When I got my chance, I wanted to deliver big for the team. After three matches with four wickets, this one felt like destiny turning in my favor,” he said.
