German authorities in Berlin canceled a major LGBTQ+ pride festival on Saturday after a vehicle deliberately crashed into attendees, leaving several people injured. The incident occurred during the city’s annual Christopher Street Day celebration, a widely attended event featuring parades and cultural activities.
“We are currently deployed with numerous police forces as well as rescue units from the Berlin Fire Department in the Großer Tiergarten,” Berlin Police announced via their official X post, urging festivalgoers to evacuate the area immediately.
Police confirmed that injured individuals received medical treatment from on-site emergency personnel but have not disclosed details regarding the severity of their conditions. Authorities are actively searching for suspects and have not yet revealed a potential motive for the attack.
The festival, known for drawing hundreds of thousands of participants, featured a parade and concluded that evening with a concert at Tiergarten park near the Brandenburg Gate. Investigations into the incident continue as officials assess the evolving situation.
