Bill Evans, Westpac’s former chief economist and a leading authority on Australian interest rates, has died following a battle with cancer at the age of 76.
He joined Westpac in 1991 as chief economist and, over his 32‑year tenure, earned a reputation as a sharp, independent forecaster who was not afraid to take bold positions on the Reserve Bank of Australia’s monetary policy.
