Binance co-chief executive Richard Teng told FOX Business’ Darren Botelho that customers will not incur financial losses stemming from the $6.3 billion hack. Teng stressed that the exchange is fully responsible and has already replenished the impacted assets.
Binance reported that hackers employed a fraudulent job interview to compromise an employee’s laptop, gaining access to an internal service. They then leveraged an internal AI tool to execute unauthorized cryptocurrency transactions.
According to Reuters, this heist is among the largest financial breaches in history, raising alarms about cybersecurity weaknesses at cryptocurrency exchanges and the increasing role of AI in sophisticated attacks.
Tuesday, Binance acknowledged that the breach underscored the heightened risks financial institutions face as criminal actors increasingly exploit AI to breach corporate systems. The exchange announced plans to boost its investment in AI-driven threat detection and create a security research fund, in partnership with prominent AI firms.
The exchange has restored roughly 90% of the stolen assets, covering approximately $6 billion of the estimated loss. Binance further noted that major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and BNB remained fully supported.

Recovery efforts have also involved law enforcement agencies, cryptocurrency companies and blockchain analytics firms. The exchange said roughly $3 billion in assets had been frozen as investigators worked to trace the stolen funds.
Tether, Circle and Ripple also froze hundreds of millions of dollars in potentially affected assets.

The scale of the attack has drawn attention to the financial risks associated with security breaches at major cryptocurrency platforms.
“This is one of the world’s greatest thefts of all time,” Eric Schiffer, chairman of Patriarch and Reputation Management Consultants, previously told FOX Business. “And it’s sad.”
The breach also impacted cryptocurrency markets, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB declining after Binance initially disclosed the incident, according to Reuters and CoinGecko data.
The incident has intensified scrutiny of cryptocurrency exchange security and the potential for artificial intelligence to make cyberattacks more sophisticated, as Binance moves to strengthen its defenses and recover the stolen assets.
