Binance customers withdrew a net $3.64 billion (£2.72 billion) from the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange as it reopened on Sunday aftera record‑breaking hack.
The firm halted all transactions following the incident, which affected $6.3 billion worth of digital assets.
Major organisations, such as the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), have attributed the cyber‑attack to North Korea, which is believed to be the largest hack in history.
The company said it has recovered about 95% of the stolen assets, while the remainder may require more time to locate. Binance has repeatedly stated it will compensate all losses resulting from the attack.
“From 06:00 to 15:30 GMT on November 1, we processed $4.649 billion in withdrawals and $1.01 billion in deposits, yielding a net outflow of roughly $3.64 billion,” Binance announced on X.
An initial surge in withdrawals was observed, after which activity declined and is now stabilising as expected, the company added.
The firm also reported that withdrawals for over two dozen major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum, have resumed, with additional services to follow in phases after security checks are completed.
