A Blue Origin New Glenn rocket exploded shortly after launch on Thursday evening, creating a massive fireball that illuminated the skies over Florida. The space technology company, founded by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, confirmed that the incident resulted in no injuries.
The launch failure has raised concerns beyond Blue Origin’s immediate operations, as NASA had been counting on the rocket for its future lunar missions. The vehicle was expected to play a significant role in the agency’s plans to return humans to the Moon, according to science correspondent Pallab Ghosh.
