Guitarist Bob Britt addressed rumors surrounding his exit from Bob Dylan’s live ensemble, stating he voluntarily left the group after a deleted social media post.
Britt, who performed with Dylan since 2019 during the ‘Rough And Rowdy Ways’ tour, clarified that he was not terminated but chose to step away for personal reasons he preferred to keep confidential. He expressed appreciation for his bandmates and crew during his final remarks.
The change occurred alongside the replacement of electric guitarist Doug Lancio by jazz guitarist Julian Lage. Lancio had been part of Dylan’s touring group since 2021 but missed a performance in Santa Barbara, California, on June 17.
Dylan later engaged Joel Paterson, a jazz and blues guitarist from Chicago, who debuted with the band in Austin, Texas, on June 29. Lage’s absence was attributed to scheduling conflicts.
Britt’s Facebook update confirmed his departure was self-imposed, adding he plans to focus on session work and potential future live projects. He concluded with a light-hearted note about gardening: “Meanwhile, I have some flower beds to weed.”
Lancio has not yet addressed his exit. Dylan’s ongoing North American tour proceeded to New Braunfels, Texas, on June 30, with shows continuing through August 1 in Nashville. Recent performances included rare tracks like ‘I Shall Be Released’ and ‘You Ain’t Gonna Nowhere,’ revived after 18 and 10 years, respectively.
In unrelated remarks, Dylan commented on aging, noting that “getting older means outliving the clocks that chase you.”
