Memphis-based guitarist Jad Tariq made his debut in Dylan’s unit on Friday in Cincinnati, filling in for fellow new addition Julian Lage.

Bob Dylan’s rotating roster of touring guitarists added another fresh face on Friday at the Cincinnati show.

At the PNC Pavilion, Tariq stepped in for Julian Lage, who had recently replaced Doug Lancio in Dylan’s touring band.

Since joining Dylan’s ensemble, Lage has missed several shows due to other commitments, allowing fellow guitarist Joel Paterson — who filled in after Bob Britt left in late June — to take over guitar duties.

Lage returned for the July 6 concert in Minnesota but was absent from the July 10 performance, which coincided with his scheduled European dates. Rather than have Paterson solo again, Dylan brought in Tariq to fill the second‑guitarist role, making him the 36th guitarist to perform with Dylan.

It remains unclear whether Tariq is now a permanent member of the touring band or simply a substitute for Lage, but opportunities for further performances loom as Dylan prepares for a European tour in October while Lage has North American dates scheduled.

Dylan’s next appearance is Sunday night at Pittsburgh’s Stage AE; the lineup for that show will be decided on the spot. Despite the frequent changes, Dylan’s setlist has remained stable in recent weeks, consistently featuring the same 15 songs, with the finale alternating between “I Shall Be Released” and “Every Grain of Sand.”
