Booker T has disclosed that he was initially planned to team with Bad Bunny at WrestleMania 37. The match eventually saw Damian Priest partnering with the music star against The Miz and John Morrison.

This story emerged from a recent episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, co-hosted by Brad Gilmore, where he responded to a listener’s inquiry about why he and Bad Bunny never competed against each other.

“I had no intention of wrestling Bad Bunny,” Booker T said. “I nearly participated in a tag match with him. The original concept was for me and Bad Bunny to team up, not Damian Priest and Bad Bunny.”

When asked about the reasons for the change, he explained, “Certain factors prevented it, and I won’t reveal them.” Gilmore inquired if he had pushed for it strongly, and Booker T admitted, “Not sufficiently.”

Booker T highlighted that Bad Bunny was a fan from his youth. “He grew up watching me, and I influenced him deeply. He even created a song about me that won a Grammy, which I am grateful for,” he expressed.

What Happened In 2021

Bad Bunny performed his track “Booker T” at the 2021 Royal Rumble, with Booker T making a cameo and engaging physically with Miz and Morrison. The song later secured the Best Rap/Hip Hop Song award at the Latin Grammy Awards.

In February 2021, when his name was linked to the match, Booker T dismissed it on his podcast as “100% a rumor.” He noted that no one had contacted him about a WrestleMania match and preferred that Damian Priest take the spot. “I’d rather see Damian Priest get the opportunity; he’s the active television personality,” he stated.

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that same month that the plan shifted to Bad Bunny teaming with Priest. At WrestleMania 37 on April 10, 2021, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Bad Bunny and Priest defeated Miz and Morrison on Night 1 of the event.
