Bosch Returns to Prime Video with a Fresh, Early-90s Revival

Since viewers first discovered Harry Bosch in the 2015 series Bosch, the character has remained one of modern television’s most popular detectives due to his gritty realism and uncompromising moral code. Portrayed by the commanding Titus Welliver, the investigator captures audiences with his defining mantra: “Everybody counts, or nobody counts.” From seven seasons of the original series to its acclaimed 2022 follow-up, Bosch: Legacy, Harry’s relentless pursuit of justice across Los Angeles redefined the standard police procedural.

Welliver’s Bosch left the screen last year when Bosch: Legacy concluded after three seasons, but fans have been introduced to a new character within the Bosch universe. Maggie Q joins the franchise as Renee Ballard, an empathetic detective who investigates cold cases to seek justice for victims. In the spin-off Ballard, the retired Harry occasionally appears to assist, though his iconic defiance remains uniquely his own. While Welliver is not leading another show in the near future, a new incarnation of the legend is on the horizon.

Prime Video has announced that the next chapter in the character’s story turns back to explore his origins in the flagship series. Bosch: Start of Watch introduces a completely new cast and a time period set in 1992. In this installment, 26-year-old Harry Bosch (Cameron Monaghan) begins policing in a volatile Los Angeles, where racial dynamics create tension, gang violence is rampant, and the LAPD is losing its edge. “Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as the detective who lives by the code, ‘Everybody counts, or nobody counts’.” Prime Video has officially premiered Bosch: Start of Watch on January 10, 2027.

The series is based on Michael Connelly‘s books that inspired the flagship series. Tom Bernado and Brian Anthony helm this new chapter of Bosch’s life as co-creators and executive producers, with Bernado serving as showrunner. Shameless star Monaghan takes on the role, alongside Power‘s Omari Hardwick as Eli Bridges, a veteran cop and Harry’s training officer. Other series regulars include Ariana Guerra (Rosa) and JD Pardo (Cory).

The eight-episode first season of Bosch: Start of Watch premieres on Sunday, January 10, 2027. Stay tuned to Collider for further updates.
