Bradley Cooper has been cast as field commander Duke in Paramount’s upcoming “G.I. Joe” feature film, directed by Danny McBride.
Specific plot details and additional casting choices remain undisclosed, though Paramount has committed to delivering a modernized take on the legacy Hasbro toy franchise. McBride co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri.
The studio also confirmed that the “G.I. Joe” universe has been decoupled from the “Transformers” franchise, separating the two properties despite a crossover hint revealed at the conclusion of 2023’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”
A 12-time Academy Award nominee, Cooper is widely recognized for performances in “A Star is Born,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” and “American Sniper.” He is currently in production on an “Ocean’s 11” prequel, for which he is serving as both director and lead, alongside Margot Robbie and Monica Barbaro.
“G.I. Joe” represents McBride’s first foray into directing a major action tentpole. His previous directing work includes the pilot for the HBO series “The Righteous Gemstones” and several episodes of “Vice Principals.”
The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Zev Foreman for Hasbro Entertainment.
