“I just bawled, absolutely bawled,” Ted Lasso star Brendan Hunt said about hearing the singer‑songwriter’s rendition of the theme originally performed by Marcus Mumford.
Ted Lasso returns for its final season. The 10th and concluding episode of the Apple TV series premiered Wednesday, Oct. 7, featuring a special guest voice in the opening theme: Brandi Carlile.
Carlile performed her version of “Ted Lasso Theme” for the finale. The song was originally co‑written and performed by Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons together with composer Tom Howe. The track complements the season’s storyline, which follows Jason Sudeikis’s Ted Lasso as he coaches an all‑women soccer team.
Ted Lasso originally wrapped up after its third season in 2023. Apple TV announced a revival in early 2025, confirming the return of Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, and Jeremy Swift, though no further plot or casting details have been disclosed.
In 2021, shortly after Season Two concluded, Sudeikis hosted Saturday Night Live with Carlile as a musical guest. The crossover set the stage for the new theme song. Sudeikis surprised Hunt by playing him the full length of Brandi’s rendition. “He said, ‘I got something to play for you guys,’ and he played me the full‑length version of Brandi’s new version of the theme,” Hunt told Variety. “I just bawled, absolutely bawled.”
Hunt urged Apple to release the complete recording. “I hope Apple puts out the whole recording because the 30‑second snippet we get for the credits is just a taste—the full version is staggering. It’s her and the whole band bringing their ‘A’ game; it’s really, really powerful.”
