Brandon Flowers has disclosed which solo track he believes would have resonated as a major Killers song, pinpointing “Crossfire.”
The frontman released his third solo album, “Thrasher,” late last month via Island, after previewing it with singles “Plans,” “Paradise,” and “Tiger’s Blood.”
In a recent fan Q&A, Flowers discussed balancing his work with The Killers and his solo projects. When asked whether any solo song could have fit the Killers’ sound, he answered, “I always come back to ‘Crossfire,’” referring to his 2010 debut solo single, later included on his first album “Flamingo.”
“It would have been probably a large Killers song and [I] slightly regret it, but also I’m proud it still exists,” he added, noting that the track remains part of his upcoming live setlist.
The 2010 single received mixed reviews but topped NME’s charts for several weeks, reaching number eight on the UK singles chart—a career‑high for Flowers as a solo artist.
Musically, the song echoes the stripped‑back vibe of some Killers tracks, beginning with a gentle melody and tender vocals before building to an uplifting chorus.
Flowers is currently performing the track on his North American tour in support of “Thrasher,” with UK and Ireland dates slated for this autumn.
“Thrasher” marks Flowers’ first solo release since 2015’s “The Desired Effect” and earned a four‑star rating from NME. The review praised his vocal conviction and storytelling, noting the album’s soulful delivery and his growth as a songwriter.
Prior to the album’s launch, Flowers spoke to NME about its childhood inspirations and his plans for a forthcoming “sister record” addressing the “loneliness epidemic,” while also touching on The Killers’ future direction.
When asked about a new Killers album, Flowers said, “It’s not in the can, but the guys have been really great and accommodating about coming to Salt Lake to write and get demos going. We meet periodically in Salt Lake, and that’s just on account of where I’m at as a father… They’ve been great about it, and we’re just going to keep chipping away.”
He added, “It’s the full band, and we’ve been working with Ariel Rechtshaid and Shawn Rado. The band have got some time off for good behaviour, but we meet every now and again to see if we’ve got anything left in the tank.”
