Brazil received eight red cards during a chaotic 1-0 loss to the United States women’s national team in a friendly match held in Fortaleza.
The Brazilian head coach, Arthur Elias, and three of his assistants were expelled from the technical area, while players Bia Zaneratto and Tarciane were also dismissed. Two additional players were shown red cards after the final whistle on Tuesday evening.
Sophia Wilson’s shot deflected off Isabela and slipped past Brazilian goalkeeper Lorena in the 63rd minute, providing the sole goal of the contest in front of a crowd exceeding 55,000 spectators in northern Brazil. The hosts failed to register a single shot on target, whereas the United States recorded six.
Coach Elias and several members of his staff were removed from the dugout during the second half.
In stoppage time, Brazil’s lineup was reduced to nine players after attacker Zaneratto collected a second yellow card for pushing Emily Sonnett.
Moments later, teammate Tarciane was shown a straight red card for elbowing Wilson.
Following the final whistle, Brazil’s Kerolin and Ludmila were each shown red cards for dissent.
These matches formed part of a double‑header in Brazil for the United States, with the team having fallen 2‑1 in the preceding encounter in São Paulo on Saturday.
Six‑time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta entered the game in the 80th minute, marking her 212th appearance for Brazil.
Dudinha appeared to sustain a right‑knee injury after colliding with Sonnett in the 30th minute and was subsequently stretchered off, later returning to the bench on crutches.
The fixtures were played at stadiums slated to host matches at the upcoming Women’s World Cup next June and July. The United States will commence its qualification campaign in November.
