Britain’s Latest World Champion Calls for Title Clash with Chris Eubank Jr: ‘This Is the Fight I Want’

Chris Eubank Jr has been presented with an opportunity to claim a world title, though it would be in a weight division he may prefer to avoid.

The 36‑year‑old has been inactive since his rematch with Conor Benn, which ended in a unanimous decision loss for Eubank in November.

Although he defeated Benn by unanimous decision in their April 2025 bout, Eubank appeared markedly weaker in the November rematch, visibly struggling with the 160‑lb limit and the 10‑lb rehydration clause.

Consequently, moving up to 168 lbs appears to be a sensible option, even though Eubank may retire from the sport soon.

Meanwhile, Eubank might be tempted by a bout with Denzel Bentley, who was recently promoted from interim to full WBO middleweight champion.

This situation arose after Janibek Alimkhanuly, who failed a doping test late last year, vacated his WBO title while serving a year‑long suspension.

Consequently, Bentley is obligated to make a voluntary title defence, which he wishes to stage against Eubank, while top‑ranked contender Yoenli Hernandez remains unnamed as his mandatory challenger.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the 31‑year‑old noted that Eubank is a more recognizable opponent than Hernandez, who would present a greater threat to his championship ambitions.

I would prefer the Chris Eubank Jr bout first, as it would be a domestic clash, whereas few are familiar with Hernandez. I was unaware of Hernandez myself until I captured the [WBO] title.

I have examined him. He is a quality fighter, typical of most Cubans, yet I would welcome a fight with Chris Eubank Jr if feasible. Should he still be competing at middleweight, that would be the contest I desire.

He has repeatedly expressed a desire to become world champion, and this would provide him with the opportunity to achieve that goal.

Before being upgraded to full champion, Bentley claimed his ‘interim’ title with a seventh-round stoppage over Endry Saavedra in April.
