15 different compounds
Ten riders representing five manufacturers will compete in the official Pirelli MotoGP test at Brno on Monday.
The Czech venue will provide an ideal setting for full‑time MotoGP riders to sample the new 850 cc prototypes equipped with Pirelli tyres, which will debut in 2027 and usher in a new era for the World Championship.
Each of the five manufacturers will field two riders for the test, though not all of them will be on the same bikes for the upcoming season.
Ducati will be represented by Marc Márquez and Fermín Aldeguer; KTM will field Pedro Acosta and Dani Pedrosa. Honda has called up Joan Mir and Luca Marini, while Yamaha will have Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Augusto Fernández as a test rider. Aprilia’s line‑up was set to include Marco Bezzecchi and Raúl Fernández, but the latter will sit out the test after a weekend spent battling appendicitis.
The test will be held behind closed doors at the request of Michelin, which holds the sole‑supplier contract until 31 November. Consequently, images of MotoGP bikes using Pirelli tyres cannot be released until after that date.
Nevertheless, the Milan‑based manufacturer released a graphic preview of the test on Sunday, revealing a catalogue of 15 tyres available to the riders.
The range includes seven front tyres and eight rear tyres. The front portfolio comprises three soft compounds, two medium specifications, one rain tyre, and one intermediate compound, which returns to the line‑up after being omitted for several years. The rear portfolio offers one soft, two medium, and two hard specifications.
At the rear, riders will have one soft, two medium, and two hard tyre specifications, in addition to two rain tyres and one rear intermediate tyre.
Behind closed doors
The test will be closed to the media and photographers, with no timing data released. The Brno session, held on the site of this weekend’s Czech Grand Prix, will commence at 9:00 AM local time and run until 1:00 PM, with teams taking a one‑hour lunch break.
Activities will resume at 2:00 PM and continue until 6:00 PM, when the first official tyre test for full‑time riders on 850 cc bikes and Pirelli tyres will conclude. All times are local.
The primary goal is to collect extensive data from as many riders as possible to refine and develop the tire range, with a sprint‑simulation session also on the schedule.
The next official test is scheduled for the Monday following the Austrian Grand Prix on 21 September, open to private teams. The first 2027 pre‑season test will then take place on 1 December in Valencia, featuring all riders.
