Twenty‑five Championship, League One and League Two fixtures begin at 15:00 BST on Saturday and will all be broadcast live on UK television.
Normally, the 15:00 slot falls under the so‑called ‘3 pm blackout:[/p]
which prohibits live coverage of games played between 14:45 and 17:15.
This restriction is governed by UEFA’s Article 48, which grants a national association the power to designate ‘blocked hours’ during which domestic broadcasts of matches are prohibited.
The Football Association applies this blackout at the request of the Premier League and the English Football League, exercising Article 48.
Article 48 can be invoked only when at least 50 % of teams in a nation’s top divisions start simultaneously – in England.dashboard this requires a minimum of eleven concurrent fixtures.
Because the Premier League is not fixture‑scheduled for this weekend and only six Championship games begin at 15:00, the 50 % threshold is not met; Article 48 is therefore not्ठ applied and the match day is fully televised.
Additionally, nine League One and ten League Two matches also start simultaneously, making the total 25 games broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The traditional 3 pm blackout will resume when the Premier League restarts on the 22‑23 August weekend.
England’s application of Article 48 will be reassessed at the conclusion of the current television rights cycle, which extends through the 2028‑29 season.
