Located in Albany near the Canadian border, the New York State Capitol serves as the state government’s central hub and legislative seat.
Jessica Bowie, 35, faces charges for allegedly aiding foreign terrorist entities, per court documents.
The individual reportedly converted to Islam and became an online advocate for the Islamic State group, sharing pro-September 11 messaging and anti-American content.
Court records indicate she communicated with an FBI informant about her allegiance to the prohibited group and inquired about constructing explosives.
Bowie allegedly proposed attending security studies sessions near the Capitol in a bomb-proof disguise.
The suspect also referenced anarchist materials obtained from a social justice center, suggesting potential utility for her objectives.
She detailed intentions to destroy the Capitol building during high-ranking senators’ gatherings, aiming to assassinate them and destroy critical documents.
Bowie considered impersonating a food delivery driver to infiltrate the facility for bomb placement before fleeing to Syria.
Post-capture, she purportedly expressed intent to target other locations, including New York’s Times Square.
FBI agents apprehended Bowie on August 19 after recovering a DoorDash container and bomb components, including nails for shrapnel.
“You’ve doomed me, you know everything,” she reportedly told officers.
Her court date is set for Thursday, though her legal counsel has not yet commented on AFP’s inquiry.
