In a display of offensive brilliance, Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark combined to shoot 7-for-9 from beyond the arc during a decisive third-quarter run, propelling the Indiana Fever past the Chicago Sky 113-90 on Sunday night.
The Fever set a new franchise record with 18 successful 3-pointers, achieving an impressive shooting efficiency of 54.5% (18-for-33) from long distance.
Indiana (25-14) surpassed the 100-point mark for the 18th time this season, extending a league record. Clark delivered a career-best performance, sinking eight 3-pointers on just twelve attempts. She finished with 37 points and 10 assists, marking her fifth career WNBA game with 30-plus points and 10-plus assists, further extending her own league record for the most such games.
Mitchell contributed 30 points, with 23 of them scored in the second half, shooting an efficient 6-for-9 from the three-point line. Lexie Hull added 14 points, including two 3-pointers, while Makayla Timpson secured 12 points and nine rebounds. Indiana forward Aliyah Boston was sidelined due to a right lower leg injury.
Chicago (15-23) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Natasha Cloud led the Sky with 16 points and seven assists, while Azura Stevens contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. Despite battling foul trouble, Kamilla Cardoso managed 11 points and six rebounds. The Sky shot a poor 4-for-21 (19.0%) from deep, and this defeat officially eliminated them from WNBA playoff contention.
The first half was highly competitive, with Chicago holding a one-point lead at halftime. However, Mitchell and Clark combined for 25 third-quarter points, predominantly from long range, to pull Indiana ahead. Although the Sky tied the game at 58-all on a layup by Sydney Taylor with 7:15 remaining in the quarter, Clark and Mitchell responded with clutch three-pointers to establish a commanding lead. Chicago was unable to close the gap, ultimately falling by as many as 25 points as Indiana outscored them 30-13 in the final period.
