New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year, but he had a rough outing on June 30, allowing a season‑high six earned runs.
Seeking redemption, Schlittler delivered a dominant performance on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. He tossed eight innings of one‑run ball, striking out eight batters, and helped the Yankees secure their second win in their last 10 games.
“They want to say there’s (expletive) regression because I have one bad outing, so again, it was personal to go out there and have a dominant start and put this team in the right position,” Schlittler said after the game.
Schlittler continues to anchor the Yankees’ rotation with an American League‑best 2.01 ERA and 131 strikeouts. His rookie season has proven durable rather than a fluke, especially with Max Fried sidelined and Gerrit Cole absent from the lineup.
Following Monday’s outing, Schlittler has recorded 11 quality starts this season. The Yankees are 13‑5 in his 18 starts, and he has allowed three or fewer earned runs in all but two of those games.
His standout performance has made him the early favorite for the American League Cy Young Award, and he was recently selected as an All‑Star for the first time.
