At the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, the Montreal Canadiens selected Juraj Slafkovsky first overall instead of Shane Wright. Slafkovsky has yet to develop into a consistent two-way top-six center. Although Wright would come at a lower cost, Montreal’s attempts to obtain prospects such as Matthew Knies and Kirill Marchenko suggest the organization is targeting more established young talent.
