Cardano is staging a strong rebound, drawing both institutional whales and retail investors back into the fold — and on-chain metrics suggest the momentum runs deeper than a typical price squeeze.
Per Santiment, ADA’s market capitalization has risen approximately 42% since September 16, with price climbing from around $0.19 to roughly $0.27. This rally has been accompanied by a noticeable surge in large-holder activity.
Whales Re-enter the Tape
Santiment reported 413 Cardano transactions valued at $100,000 or more in a single day — the highest whale-activity print since June 4. This is a meaningful spike, not merely margin noise.
The retail crowd soon followed. ADA’s social dominance surged to 1.16%, its highest reading of 2026, signaling Cardano’s re-entry into the broader conversation after months of relative quiet.
Cardano Whales Wake Up, ADA Marketcap Now Up 42% Since September 16th!
Cardano’s +42% run since September 16th has whales moving again. ADA transactions worth at least $100K surged to 413 in one day, marking the highest whale activity since June 4th.

Beyond Short Squeeze Dynamics
While some coverage attributed the rally to short covering amid softer derivatives conditions, Santiment’s data indicates this is not the full explanation.
Between October 3 and October 5, ADA advanced approximately 10%. Over this same window:
- Open interest increased approximately 25% to $304 million, marking the highest daily close since at least early April
- Measured in ADA, OI still rose 13%, indicating new positioning rather than price alone inflating dollar OI
- Whale transactions on October 5 ran approximately 2.2x the weekday average from September 7 through October 2
- Social volume also exceeded that same baseline
Funding rates flipped from their most negative reading of the prior month on October 2 into positive territory, suggesting some short covering did provide a boost. However, since covering typically reduces open interest, the fact that OI rose suggests leverage was being added, not merely squeezed out.
Was $ADA’s rally really a short squeeze?
Some coverage said so, pointing to falling open interest. Santiment’s daily closes show the opposite.
$ADA rose ~10% from Oct 3 to Oct 5.

What’s Driving the Narrative
Santiment also linked the attention spike to fresh project flow. The October 1 launch of RealFi on Cardano mainnet, along with discussion surrounding Leios, Fireblocks support, and new institutional integrations, has helped drive Cardano’s strongest social stretch of the year.
This combination is significant: ADA’s price is gradually rising, major participants are active, social dominance remains elevated, and further catalysts may lie ahead with the network’s side-chain developments.
