Carson Kvapil Secures First NASCAR Victory in Emotional Win as JRM Makes History at Indianapolis

At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Carson Kvapil secured his maiden NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series triumph, marking a historic milestone for JR Motorsports (JRM). The victory was met with heartfelt emotion from both Kvapil and team co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr., who reflected on the journey in a candid post-race interview.

“Oh man, this has been a long time coming,” Earnhardt said, visibly moved. “He’s like a son almost. You know, you work with these guys for so long. You work so hard. We worked so hard with Josh Berry and all our drivers and you just want them to have success. And he’s got to win to keep going, you got to win if you want to stay in this deal and man, he got so close. So I’m just so, so happy for him, for Travis — his dad — for Caden, his brother.”

Kvapil overtook teammate Ross Chastain in the closing laps before holding off another JRM driver, Justin Allgaier, to claim the checkered flag. The win came after five runner-up finishes in his first 63 starts at NASCAR’s secondary level.

“To do this here — oh, it means the world to me,” Kvapil said after exiting the car. “Man, I don’t know, it’s very emotional. I rode around on that lap backwards and sat there and thought about all the hard work I put in, me and my dad, Travis, to get to this point. And the faith that Dale Jr., LW Miller, and Kelley Miller put behind me to give me this opportunity, give me a second chance, I guess you could say, to come back at it this year. This group of one guys on this wild — this car is amazing. I knew we were going to get one, and I’m hoping we can chase some more towards the end. I just can’t believe it. It’s been a lot of races and a lot of hours to work and build towards this.”

He later added: “This is going to be an exciting one for a long time, and I’ll be able to go into the off-weekend thinking about this, so I’m just going to try not to cry too much. I’ve already shed a few tears, just trying to hold it together right now.”

Kvapil led a historic 1-2-3-4 finish for JRM, with teammates Allgaier, Chastain, and Chase Elliott rounding out the top four. William Sawalich was the highest-ranked driver outside the JRM lineup, finishing fifth. Brent Crews, Corey Day, Sheldon Creed, Brandon Jones, and Austin Hill completed the top ten.

Stage 1

Sheldon Creed dominated early from the pole, but handling issues and lapped traffic allowed Clements to seize the lead. Clements later won Stage 1, holding a two-second advantage over Chastain. Kvapil, Sawalich, Mayer, Allgaier, and Creed followed closely.

Stage 2

Pit stop complications dropped Clements to seventh, handing the lead to Chastain. A caution on lap 73, caused by Garrett Smithley spinning, shuffled the field. Caruth and Thompson stayed out to collect stage points, with Caruth claiming Stage 2. Allgaier, Chastain, and Creed rounded out the top three.

Stage 3

In the final stage, Allgaier and Chastain led the restart with 34 laps remaining. Kvapil surged ahead with 22 laps left, fending off a late charge from Allgaier to secure the victory. Chase Elliott and Creed also factored into the closing laps, with Elliott making it a JRM 1-2-3-4 finish.

Following the race, Allgaier, Kvapil, Love, Creed, Day, Brandon Jones, and Austin Hill clinched spots in the Chase for the championship. Crews (+13 points), Gray (+7 points), Sawalich (-7 points), and Caruth (-20 points) remain in the cut-line battle.
