Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has once again engaged in a public spat with WWE superstar John Cena, this time sparked by a motivational social media post. Cena shared a message emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue, which quickly drew a characteristically blunt and provocative response from Sonnen.
In his post, Cena wrote, “Strive for a relationship environment that allows disagreement without fear.” Sonnen did not hesitate to reply directly with a blunt and surprising “I despise you.”
The exchange appears to be lighthearted banter, as WWE producer Shane Helms responded to Sonnen’s comment with laughing emojis. Sonnen later followed up with an amused “WHAT’S UP WITH THAT!” cementing the playful nature of the online exchange.
It is well-known that Sonnen is a lifelong wrestling fan. During his UFC career, he frequently embraced the “heel” persona, drawing direct inspiration from professional wrestling’s theatrical rivalries.
This is not the first time Sonnen has targeted Cena on social media. In a previous exchange, Cena advised his followers to focus on personal growth while avoiding self-importance, to which Sonnen retorted, “Easy for somebody nobody takes seriously to say.”
Separately, John Cena currently stars in the live-action and animated feature film, Coyote vs. Acme, which is now playing in theaters.
