Chelsea intensifies pursuit of Sporting CP left‑back Maxi Araujo
The Blues parted ways with Marc Cucurella earlier this month. The Spaniard transferred to Real Madrid for a fee of £52 million.
They are now expected to sign a quality replacement, with reports indicating that discussions have already begun with Araujo’s representatives.
The Blues are also planning to hold formal talks with Sporting CP for the left‑back as they anticipate high‑profile interest from elsewhere too.
The Uruguayan primarily plays a left winger for his country and has been brilliant for them at the World Cup with two goals and an assist.
Manchester United are also admirers of the 26‑year‑old ace, who could be prised away from Sporting CP for around £43 million this summer.
Araujo has also been linked with Arsenal in recent months, but they are unlikely to pursue a new left‑back unless there is a high‑profile exit.
