Chelsea will only consider a permanent transfer, with loan proposals currently off the table. Romano also reports that Aston Villa are in daily contact with the parties involved as they prepare for the possibility of replacing Watkins, while Atletico Madrid remain interested and continue pushing for Jackson. Villa’s interest could quickly become more concrete. Sky Sports reported that Chelsea value Jackson at around £65m, while Aston Villa are expected to make their move if Watkins leaves for Al-Hilal. Atletico have also shown interest but had previously preferred a loan arrangement.

Chelsea’s refusal to sanction another loan is significant because it immediately changes the race for Jackson.
