Chelsea are reportedly making significant moves to sign defender John Stones this summer, potentially beating Arsenal to the signing.
The Blues recently made headlines by outmaneuvering the Gunners to secure Aston Villa winger Morgan Rogers in a club-record transfer valued at £117 million. While Rogers was Arsenal’s primary attacking target, their leadership was hesitant to meet Chelsea’s record-breaking offer for the player.
Arsenal are now looking to bolster their defense by pursuing Stones on a free transfer following his departure from Manchester City, but Chelsea may disrupt their plans. The West London club has already established contact with the player’s representatives, as manager Xabi Alonso seeks to add veteran experience to the central defensive unit.
Arsenal’s defensive interest comes at a critical time as they evaluate a back injury sustained by William Saliba, who may be sidelined for four to five months. With Jurrien Timber and Ben White also facing fitness concerns, the Gunners are eager to acquire a high-level center-back to compete with Cristhian Mosquera for a central defensive role next season.
