China’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.8% year‑over‑year in August, up from a 0.5% increase in July, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The figure matched the market consensus of 0.8%.

Month‑over‑month, CPI increased 0.4% in August, reversing a 0.1% decline in the prior month and topping the expected 0.3% rise.

Producer prices also accelerated, with the Producer Price Index (PPI) climbing 3.8% year‑over‑year in August, exceeding July’s 3.5% gain and the consensus forecast of 3.7%.

Market Reaction to China’s CPI and PPI Data

Following the release, the AUD/USD pair was up 0.07% at 0.7220.
