[Chinese Premier Promises Expanded High‑Value Imports Amid Trade Surplus Scrutiny]
Premier Li Qiang announced on Wednesday that China is ready to import more high‑value items, especially high‑value‑added products, to foster a more balanced trade environment.
Li made the pledge at a symposium held during the autumn session of the biannual Canton Fair, China’s largest foreign‑trade exhibition. The nearly three‑week event officially opens on Thursday, with more than 32,000 exhibitors and 210,000 overseas buyers already registered in advance.
“International trade is not merely figures on a ledger, but a voluntary choice to enhance well‑being,”
Li said during his keynote address, according to Xinhua.
“As both a ‘super seller’ and a ‘super buyer,’ China delivers principally ‘neighbour‑benefiting’ and ‘neighbour‑enriching’ positive spillovers to all partners,”
he added.
