Chipotle Mexican Grill has officially entered the Mexican market, marking a significant milestone in the fast-casual chain’s global expansion strategy. The first location opened on July 16 in San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, within the Monterrey metropolitan area. The venture is being conducted through a partnership with Alsea, a major restaurant operator.
“We are entering Mexico with deep respect for the country’s culinary heritage and a commitment to delivering the Chipotle experience with excellence,” said Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright. “Our research has reinforced our belief that there is strong interest in high-quality, freshly prepared food served with the customization and convenience that Chipotle offers.”

Following the partnership agreement announced in April 2025, Chipotle and Alsea intend to expand their presence in Nuevo León later this year, with further moves into Mexico City slated for 2027. Alsea manages thousands of restaurants for various global quick-service, coffee, and full-service brands across Latin America and Europe.

The new location features Chipotle’s signature menu, including customizable burritos, bowls, tacos, salads, and quesadillas, with many ingredients sourced from regional suppliers. The company selected the Monterrey area due to its robust economy, growing population, and status as a primary business hub.
“Bringing Chipotle to Mexico is an important step in our growth and portfolio diversification strategy,” stated Alsea CEO Christian Gurría. “We are introducing an iconic brand with a differentiated value proposition that has resonated with millions of guests around the world, and we are confident it will be warmly welcomed by Mexican consumers.”
