Christian Eriksen Experiences Another Cardiac Episode During Denmark-Ukraine Friendly

Denmark’s friendly match against Ukraine was halted on Sunday after midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field. Eriksen previously received an implantable cardioverter defibrillator following a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, which prevented him from continuing his career at Inter before he resumed play with Brentford in the Premier League after more than a year away from the sport.
It remains unclear whether this episode was linked to the same cardiac condition, though Eriksen was seen clutching his chest moments before collapsing. He was able to walk unaided onto the ambulance to receive further medical attention.
Eriksen spent the previous season with Wolfsburg, while Denmark narrowly missed qualification for the World Cup. He had begun the friendly against Ukraine and collapsed in the 65th minute, prompting the referees to stop play as medical staff intervened.
The Danish Football Association announced that Eriksen is conscious and in stable condition, and that the match has been called off.
National team doctor Morten Boesen stated that the device responded as expected.
Boesen added that Eriksen walked off the pitch unaided, regained consciousness quickly, and is now undergoing further hospital examinations to determine the cause. He remains in contact with medical staff and has asked his regards be passed to his teammates.
