Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon Leave Five Dead Despite Ceasefire Agreement]

Israel carried out a series of airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday morning, according to Lebanese state media, leaving at least five people dead despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah announced the previous day.

The Israeli military conducted overnight airstrikes on Nabatieh al-Fawqa, followed by morning attacks on Arabsalim that killed three individuals, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported. Drone strikes targeting Deir al-Zahrani and Doueir resulted in two additional fatalities.

The latest violence erupted less than 24 hours after U.S. officials announced Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah had reached a renewed ceasefire agreement. The previous day had witnessed exchanging fire between the two sides, raising concerns about the stability of the American-brokered provisional peace deal.

The escalation followed deadly clashes on Friday that saw four Israeli soldiers killed in southern Israel, prompting the Israeli defense minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to declare “all of Lebanon must burn” on social media. Ben-Gvir added, “For every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must weep.”
