Christopher Nolan’s epic adaptation of The Odyssey is arriving on home media sooner than its protagonist’s decade-long journey. The film debuts on video-on-demand platforms and receives a physical media release on November 17—exactly four months after its U.S. theatrical bow.
While the release was initially announced in August, additional details have emerged regarding the available formats. Beyond standard 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD editions, the studio offered a collectible Steelbook and a three-disc gift set priced at $300. Both premium configurations have already sold out through online retailers. Digital purchase and rental options will launch the same day.
A streaming date has not yet been confirmed, though as a Universal Pictures release, the film is expected to eventually migrate to Peacock.
Drawing from Homer’s 2,700-year-old epic poem, The Odyssey follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) as he attempts to return to Ithaca following the Trojan War. True to Nolan’s signature style, the narrative unfolds across a fragmented timeline rather than a linear progression. The ensemble cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o.
The film surpassed the already formidable box-office benchmarks set by Nolan’s previous work, grossing over $1.7 billion worldwide against a $250 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. A substantial portion of that revenue originated from IMAX screenings, the premium large-format presentation for which the production was specifically designed.
“Once you’ve stepped into this film and let it sweep you up, however, it’s hard to deny the accomplishment that he’s brought to the screen,” wrote Rolling Stone‘s David Fear in his review. “You may have no idea how long you’ve been gone after you’ve seen it. You just know that you want to go back again.”
