Coinbase Invests in Ethena Ahead of Onchain Savings Launch for 100 Million Users

Coinbase Ventures, the investment arm of Coinbase, announced its stake in Ethena to support the launch of a new onchain savings product for the exchange’s 100 million users. The partnership marks the first Ethena product integration for Coinbase’s user base and emphasizes expanding access to decentralized finance tools.

Ethena co-founder Guy Young highlighted the collaboration’s significance, stating the product will bring Ethena’s yield generate… crypto capital to mainstream audiences via Coinbase’s platform. This aligns with Ethena’s strategy to move beyond crypto-native users while offering stablecoin-based savings through derivatives funding.

As part of the deal, Coinbase will serve as Ethena’s custodian, wallet provider, and derivatives trading venue. The partnership leverages Coinbase’s Base network infrastructure to distribute Ethena’s USDe yield-bearing token and integrate with existing Coinbase products.

Earlier this year, Ethena’s governance token, ENA, surged 20% post-announcement before retreating gain… crypto. Despite broader market downturns, ENA reported a 3% gain over 24 hours, signaling investor confidence in the partnership’s long-term potential.

The collaboration coincides with regulatory discussions around the CLARITY Act, which Young suggested could create favorable conditions for synthesi… like USDe. The bill seeks to modernize crypto asset classification frameworks, potentially accelerating institutional adoption of such products.

Yan Liberman of Delphi Ventures noted Coinbase’s access to USDC reserves could synergize with Ethena’s yield infrastructure to improve lending opportunities for both platforms. This could expand Ethena’s reach into traditional financial products while maintaining crypto-native execution.

Ethena is also deepening institutional relationships through a partnership with Anchorage Digital Bank. Anchorage will custody collateral for Ethena’s loans via its Atlas platform, enabling regulated access to crypto-native capital. This follows Anchorage’s role as US issuers of Ethena’s digital token.
