Corn prices slipped 4 to 5 cents lower on Friday morning, giving back earlier gains from the prior session. Thursday’s futures settlement showed modest gains of 2 to 3 cents in the front‑month contracts, while longer‑dated 2027 contracts edged slightly down. Open interest rose by 16,521 contracts, indicating continued buying interest. The CmdtyView national average cash price for corn increased by 2 cents to $4.34½.
Export sales data released on Thursday recorded 332,679 metric tons of old‑crop corn moved during the week ending July 16, a modest increase over the previous week and roughly half of the same period last year. Mexico led purchases with 203,300 metric tons, followed by Taiwan with 152,000 metric tons. New‑crop sales were reported at 701,505 metric tons, marking the fourth‑largest new‑crop sale of the marketing year but 4.4% below the comparable figure from the prior year. Unidentified destinations accounted for 168,000 metric tons, of which 148,100 metric tons were destined for Colombia.
September 26 corn futures settled at $4.64, modestly higher by 2 cents, though trading later dipped 5 cents.
The nearby cash market was quoted at $4.34½, up 2 cents.
December 26 corn futures closed at $4.87½, up 2¾ cents, but later traded 5 cents lower.
March 27 corn futures settled at $5.03, up 2¾ cents, before slipping 4¾ cents.
New‑crop cash wheat was quoted at $4.38½, up 2 cents.
