Cotton prices retreated 61 to 75 points in early Tuesday trading, giving back some of Monday’s broad gains where futures advanced 110 to 247 points across contracts.

Crude oil prices fell $4.81 per barrel while the US dollar index rose $0.255 during the same period.

According to the latest Weekly Crop Progress report, 65% of the US cotton crop had bolls opening as of Sunday with 13% already harvested. Crop condition ratings stood at 34% good/excellent, representing a 2 percentage point decline from the previous week. The Brugler500 index dropped 1 point to 295.

US Treasury Secretary Bessent held discussions with Chinese officials over the weekend ahead of this week’s bilateral leaders’ meeting. Market participants increased risk exposure on Monday in anticipation of the upcoming diplomatic developments.

The Seam reported 2,496 bales sold on Friday at an average price of 77.26 cents per pound. The Cotlook A index declined 205 points on September 18 to 92.30. ICE certified cotton stocks decreased by 869 bales on September 18, bringing the total to 35,748 bales. The Adjusted World Price fell 59 points last week to 68.92 cents per pound.

Oct 26 Cotton closed at 79.85, up 247 points, currently down 70 points

Dec 26 Cotton closed at 83.42, up 227 points, currently down 75 points

Mar 27 Cotton closed at 86.08, up 229 points, currently down 75 points
