Crystal Palace is appealing Jean-Philippe Mateta’s straight red card from Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham.
Referee Michael Oliver sent off the striker in the 13th minute for a late challenge on Micky van de Ven while the match was still scoreless.
Oliver originally issued a yellow card but upgraded it to a red after a VAR review.
Mateta made contact with the Tottenham defender near the top of the ankle, though Palace maintains the challenge was accidental.
The 29-year-old France international says his focus was on the ball and that he did not see Van de Ven.
Mateta faces a potential three-match suspension, but Palace hopes the decision will be overturned or the ban reduced.
Palace faces Liverpool this weekend in a match that could affect manager Pierre Sage’s long-term future at the club following a disappointing start to his tenure.
