Cuban Immigrant Wrongfully Deported to Remote African Prison

Roberto Mosquera, a Cuban immigrant who came to the United States in 1980 and served a prison sentence from 1990 to 1996, was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last year and transported to an unresearched prison in Eswatini, a nation in southern Africa that Mosquera had never encountered. Following a prolonged hunger strike, Mosquera secured access to a telephone and spoke with Nicholas Casey of The New York Times Magazine to document his experiences during captivity.
