In partnership with Rock In Rio Lisbon
Cypress Hill took the stage at Rock In Rio Lisbon on June 21, receiving commendations after they paused their set to help an audience member who had fallen ill.
Near the end of their main‑stage performance, while rapper B‑Real was preparing to lead the crowd through a cover of House of Pain’s “Jump Around,” he noticed someone in distress. He immediately halted the show, informing the crowd, “I’m sorry about this, but we need to make sure he or she is OK,” which was met with applause.
B‑Real directed security to the affected individual and called out, “Everybody clear a path for the man in the yellow.” The audience applauded the rapper’s quick response, even though the interruption meant the group left the stage before delivering the scheduled “Jump Around”.
A fan captured the moment on X, writing, “Respect to Cypress Hill for stopping the concert at Rock in Rio because a person felt unwell in the middle of the crowd and asked everyone to make space for her and the security guards to go there.”
During the rest of the set, the group performed “Illusions” (1996), a track that has seen a resurgence on TikTok. As the song concluded, B‑Real recited the lyric “some people can fuck off,” extending it to comment on “useless politicians.”
In a 2024 interview with PA, B‑Real discussed the song’s staying power, noting that hearing “Illusions” at their shows draws a youthful crowd. “It’s 70 percent of the venue making noise,” he said, “which shows our music is timeless and being passed down through generations—much like how we grew up on Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.”
Rock In Rio Lisbon continues next weekend, featuring Rod Stewart headlining on Saturday, June 27, alongside Cyndi Lauper, Shaggy, Joss Stone and The Wailers. 21 Savage is slated to headline on Sunday, June 28.
