SAO PAULO — A head‑on collision between a minibus and a truck in Parana state has resulted in at least 23 fatalities and five injuries, authorities reported early Wednesday.
Investigators say the truck, which was not carrying cargo, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the minibus around 3:30 a.m., Brazil’s traffic police said.
The crash occurred on a highway near Ipiranga, a town of roughly 14,000 inhabitants located 560 kilometers south of São Paulo.
Among those aboard the minibus were healthcare workers, patients, and family members; the victims include 21 adults and two children, according to officials.
Rescue crews and local law‑enforcement personnel continue to work at the scene. TV Globo footage shows the truck perched on the grassy shoulder and the shattered minibus, with glass and personal items scattered nearby.
